Creatine Kinase

Below is an explanation for everyone. The nitty-gritty science on creatine kinase is at this link.

Creatine kinase is the workhorse of our body. It is a protein (enzyme) that serves you a lifetime by re-creating energy wherever you need it.

The enzyme has its own wikipedia page and  you tube video’s. We of course are a fan and granted this molecule its own foundation!

On a more serious note, this molecule very importantly links to health and disease, mainly exercise, hypertension, and bleeding.

The enzyme rapidly creates a high energy molecule called ATP from ADP and the molecule creatine with a high energy phosphorylgroup attached (Creatinephosphate).

So what creatine kinase does is to help fuel your actions. Running, jumping, childbirth, thinking, all of that.

However, creatine kinase might also help create blood pressure levels that are to high, because it provides the energy to do so.

Also, the ADP the enzyme uses might get critically low in the blood and increase bleeding risk, as ADP is needed to stop bleeding.

The Creatine Kinase Foundation is dedicated to assess the health effects of this enzyme. Please stay in tune, and come back to these pages to see more explanations and start your deeper understanding of this important bunch of atoms. We hope you will also consider to join in on the work.
